Understand that what is displayed (coverart, etc.) is not a WHS issue but instead up to the media player itself (in this case the Xbox) of how it handles/displays media. Is this seriously the case? Is Windows Home Server really this bad at serving up media? I've been searching for over an hour now, but everything seems to be a dead end.ġ) HP MediaSmarts ship with TwonkyMedia Server as the default media streamer, and the WHS built-in media streamer (which is generically named "Media Sharing") is off by default.Ģ) TwonkyMedia Server does support video thumbnails, but requires that every movie and TV episode be in their own folder along with a JPEGģ) Windows Media Player 11 (WMP11, and perhaps WMP12?) as well as the Zune software support streaming videos to the xbox 360 AND support displaying thumbnails, but these require some hacks to even get installed as they aren't made to be installed on Windows Server 2003 (WHS OS).Īnd so, if I want to browse movies/TV on my xbox, served up from my WHS, and have thumbnails for those videos, I either have to:ġ) Have a ridiculous organization structure for my movies/TV shows which requires an extra level of diving into foldersĢ) Use a hack to install WMP11 onto my WHS, leave it running all the time, and use it to stream movies to my xbox, and turn off all WHS media streaming (either Media Sharing or Twonky or whatever one has installed and enabled) I just bought an ex490 MediaSmart and I'm trying to figure out how to get my videos to have thumbnails when browsing them on my xbox 360.
